Engraved wooden artworks

These artworks all started with my obsession with Shou-sugi-ban… Shou-sugi what? Yeah I know, it’s a bit of a mouthful. It’s the ancient Japanese technique of charring the outer layer of timber to help preserve it. I’ve developed the technique since the heady days of using a blow torch, so no more singed fro’s! The artwork is then engraved into reclaimed timber, cut, sanded and oiled to help preserve the wood. It’s that simple.
