Client feedback

"We were very lucky to buy ‘Rising Warning’ which he dreamt up and we commissioned. It met all our expectations. Hamish has so many unique ideas and is flexible, accommodating and very easy to deal with. We are thrilled and look forward to the discussion that surrounds our special sculpture."

“Our motivation for this project is on a variety of levels but certainly climate change is a factor. The large wire sculpture, “Yogi can’t bear this any longer” fits in perfectly. The idea of a sculpture of an full sized, angry grizzly bear trying desparately to put out a forest fire armed only with a small fire extinguisher is thought provoking.

Hamish uses his technique of twisting rusted wire which is consistent with his ethics around using recyled materials.”

“We wanted an artwork to commemorate our engagement, which also tied in with our love of New Zealand and its landscape. We chose Hamish because we’d seen his artwork before and really loved the aesthetic of your charred timber pieces, the fact that you work using reclaimed materials and that a lot of your work is a response to NZ’s natural world.

Hamish talked us through the process really well for people who had never bought original art before, let alone commissioned it! We felt able to give enough input without stepping on Hamish’s toes, and really enjoyed that he gave us a range of possible designs. The only problem was choosing which was our favourite!”

“‘Who let the cat out of the bag’ makes a wonderful contribution to our garden. The scale, size and sense of movement it conveys coupled with the absurdity of a large cat jumping out of a handbag contributes to its overall impact.

We sited the piece near our front gate where the lioness is set to jump over a fence and pounce on arriving visitors. The level of craftsmanship and details is impressive and forms an whimsical collision between artistic sensibility and engineering excellence.”
